What you'll learn
- Launch and recovery, boat handling at low and high speed
- Close quarters manoeuvring, coming alongside and leaving a berth
- Picking up a mooring buoy, anchoring and holding station
- Man overboard recovery under power
- Collision regulations (COLREGS) and buoyage in UAE waters
- Basic navigation, chart plotting, engine checks and safety briefings
- Introduction to VHF radio procedure
How the two days run
- Day 1: Theory briefing, boat familiarisation, low speed handling in the marina, mooring and berthing drills, introduction to COLREGS.
- Day 2: High speed handling in open water, man overboard drills, anchoring, navigation exercise, debrief and certificate.
Next steps after the RYA PB2
Convert your certificate to a DMCA Marine Craft Driving Licence to skipper legally in UAE waters. Add an ICC for chartering abroad, or progress to Own Boat Training on your new vessel.
Frequently asked questions
Two consecutive days, typically 9am to 5pm. About 70% is on the water; 30% is classroom theory. Certificates are issued the same afternoon.
